PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Train-the-Trainer Program prepares agricultural supervisors, trainers, and food safety personnel to effectively teach foundational GAP principles to field workers and farm teams.
This course provides participants with:
- A structured curriculum for delivering worker food safety training,
- Practical tools and guidance for conducting effective, consistent, and compliant onsite instruction, and
- Knowledge of best practices related to worker hygiene, produce handling, sanitation, contamination prevention, and regulatory expectations.
Through this class, participants learn how to reinforce proper behaviors in the field, improve food safety culture on the farm, and satisfy internal or buyer-required worker safety training expectations.
This training is delivered in-person and includes hands-on demonstrations, scenario-based activities, and guidance on implementing learning activities within field operations.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the core principles of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and their role in reducing microbial risks.
- Deliver clear, accurate, and effective worker food safety training aligned with industry standards.
- Explain proper worker health and hygiene practices, including illness reporting and handwashing requirements.
- Train field crews on the safe use of harvesting tools, equipment, bins, and produce handling procedures.
- Identify contamination risks in the field and teach workers how to mitigate them.
- Communicate expectations for cleanliness, animal intrusion response, personal protective equipment, and sanitation practices.
- Utilize strategies for adult learning, worker engagement, and reinforcement of proper techniques.
- Incorporate GAP training into the company’s food safety plan, employee onboarding, or recurring refresher training schedule.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This Train-the-Trainer program is designed for:
- Supervisors, crew leaders, and foremen responsible for training field workers.
- Food Safety Managers, Food Safety Specialists, and Compliance Staff delivering worker training as part of GAP, GMP, buyer audits, or certification programs.
- Human Resources or Training Coordinators involved in agricultural workforce development.
- Grower/Shipper operations, harvest crews, and labor contractors seeking to standardize and improve worker safety training.
- Any agricultural employee tasked with communicating or enforcing worker hygiene and produce safety expectations.
This course supports operations preparing for or maintaining compliance with GAP, Harmonized GAP, or buyer-required food safety programs.

ATTENDANCE FAQS:
Q: Do I need to attend the full training to receive the certificate?
A: Yes. Participants must attend the full course. Late arrivals, early departures, or extended absences will result in no certificate being issued.
Q: Can someone take my place if I’m unable to attend?
A: Substitutions may be accepted if arranged in advance of the training date. Day-of substitutions are not permitted.
Q: What should I bring to the training?
A: All required materials will be provided. You may bring note-taking items or a laptop if preferred.
Q: Do I need to bring anything with me?
A: All required materials will be provided. You may bring note-taking materials and a refillable water bottle if desired.
Q: Can I bring children or other non-registered staff?
A: No. Only registered participants may attend the training. Each attendee must have their own registration.
Q: Is this course offered online?
A: No. The GAP Train-the-Trainer program is delivered in-person only to ensure the highest-quality learning experience and hands-on practice.
CERTIFICATES & CERTIFICATION:
Participants who successfully complete the full course receive a:
Certificate of Completion – GAP Train-the-Trainer
This certificate verifies that the participant has completed the required instruction to:
- Train field workers in Good Agricultural Practices
- Deliver internal food safety training aligned with industry expectations
- Support compliance with GAP audits, Harmonized GAP, and buyer requirements
This certificate demonstrates competency in food safety training and can be included in your operation’s food safety documentation, audit records, or employee training logs.
Certificates are typically issued within 2 business days after the course via email. Be sure your email is correct when registering for this course.
TRAVEL LOGISTICS & PARKING:
In-Person Classes (Clovis, CA):
- Location: Herndon Campus, 390 W. Fir Ave., Bldg. B, Room 309, Clovis, CA 93611.
- Classes begin early (check-in between 7:30 AM – 8:00 AM), so plan accordingly.
Parking:
- A temporary permit will be issued in the classroom to park for free in the campus parking lot. You will need to display this permit on your dashboard in full view.
- Please allow additional time for parking and check-in.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
- Cancellations must be received at least 5 working days before the course date for a refund, minus a $25 processing fee.
- Cancellations made less than 5 working days before the course or failure to attend the training are non-refundable.
- Refunds are not available after course materials have been distributed.
- Substituting another attendee may be possible if arranged in advance—contact our office for details.
